furry

An anthropomorphic animal; a character based on an animal but with human traits. Body fur, feathers, or scales are common. Anthro animal characters without body fur, like birds, bugs, and reptiles, still count as furry.

Monster girls or ordinary human characters that only have tails or animal ears are not considered furry.

"Kemono" is the Japanese equivalent of the term "furry", with fans of such being called "kemona" or "kemoner". Just like with furries in the west, there are numerous subcategories and subcultures within.
